Aleksandr joined the O2 Consulting team in 2016. Prior to joining O2 Consulting, Aleksandr headed Microsoft Corporation’s intellectual property protection practice in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union for more than seven years. Before that, he worked in the legal department of the international consulting firm Grant Thornton Trid and was responsible for establishing and subsequently headed the St. Petersburg office of Mannheimer Swartling.

Aleksandr has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property law. Over the course of his career, he has successfully led major projects in this field and managed a team of more than 40 attorneys across Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union, focusing on criminal, civil and administrative enforcement against copyright infringers. He has been involved in some of the most prominent cases concerning the protection of intellectual property rights in software and has played an active role in the development of intellectual property legislation.

Recognized as one of Russia’s most prominent and highly regarded intellectual property experts, Aleksandr has made a significant contribution to the development of the legal framework for protecting rights in computer software. Russian criminal legislation was amended repeatedly in the early 2000s to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property rights. This work involved industry associations representing the IT, film and music industries. The enhanced legislation was subsequently successfully applied in tens of thousands of cases, contributing to a substantial reduction in software piracy in Russia. In particular, these efforts resulted in all schools across Russia — more than 50,000 schools — obtaining fully licensed software.

Aleksandr holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Houston (USA) and graduated from the Faculty of Law of Belarusian State University.
